About Green Lab

The Green lab works on understanding the how variation in processes during development lead to phenotypic variation. We focus on how genetic and epigenetic variants alter facial development leading to cleft lip and palate and other oro-cranial phenotypic variation. In order to understand the complexity in many of these processes, we integrate imaging, genomics/epigenomics, mouse models, and traditional developmental biology methods to understand how variation arises and is controlled during development.

Projects

Understanding genotype epigenotype phenotype relations in mouse facial clefting

The goal of this project is to understand how genotype – epigenetic changes are passed into variable penetrance clefting in mouse models. We use microCT coupled with RNA/DNA analysis to generate 3D images of mid-gestation mouse embryos. Then we relate this data to RNA and DNA methylation changes using both targeted sequencing and whole genome methods. From here, we work to integrate these datasets to understand how individual embryos vary during the process of facial development and how this leads to cleft lip and palate

Understand the role of proliferation and signaling in shaping the mouse face

The goal of this project is to quantify how and where cells are dividing during facial development and begin to develop mathematical models for how small changes in proliferation and localization of growth affects the shape of the face during development and what relationship this may have to the developement of facial differences.

Collaborative image analysis

We collaborate with other teams to help quantify and understand mouse image data.
